As you probably know by now myself and Geoff done an Audax in Shenstone. The day started really well signing in on time and preparing myself for the 60 miles of road ahead. I ate well through the week and done about 63 miles commuting back and forth to work, some Audax rides i have done have been at a blistering pace but this time i had a new bike my Dawes 300. We started dead on 9 '0' clock leaving from the Richard Cooper Hall. We passed Shenstone rail stationon on the way to our first cafe stop which was 27km away. There were a few climbs between the start and the 1st cafe stop but nothing to severe but there was one long climb where the pack got split up. Me and Geoff pressed on with a few others and the next thing i knew we were stopping for our first stop. We was early but we still could get our stamp so we had a bite to eat and pressed on it was still a bit nippy. The question on the card was @ abbots bromley, name the first pub in the village? Baggots arms. The next stop was Rosliston Forestry centre @ 68km. The pack got sorted on the way to here with a few steep climbs but i was feeling really really good at this time. So we pressed on i was feeling comfortable on the new bike, the next point was where me and Geoff have been through a couple of times. As we moved along the "Dingle white train"moved along in front of us. The question how far is it to Clifton campville from Chilcote Answer 2 1/4 miles. We progressed and we both were pushing the pace up and we moved on through Clifton campville, Hauton and Harlaston but then disaster, we couldn't find the sign Whittington it wasn't sign posted me nor Geoff seen it so we carried on cycling and ended up going by lichfield. Geoff asked a number of people and we bumped into some mountain bikers we asked them and they guided us through but by this time we done an extra 10 miles. So finally we were on the road to Shenstone again and back to the car getting changed. Later on about 5:40 pm i recieved a phone call "where are you" i'm at home and not happy about the route set out, so i told him we couldn't find the sign for Whittington. He said it wasn't a very clear signpost nothing else was said and the phone was put down. Except for this i enjoyed the ride and glad that the sun came out.
